Si bien es cierto que los argentinos tienen fama de ser muy pasionales con el fĂștbol, hay hechos que no tienen justificaciĂłn alguna. El caos que se generĂł en el partido entre Boca Juniors y Gimnasia y Esgrima de la Plata es un ejemplo de ello. Un aficionado muriĂł y muchos mĂĄs fueron afectados por los gases lacrimĂłgenos y el desorden que se provocĂł.
HabĂan transcurrido tan solo 8 minutos del primer tiempo cuando los gases lacrimĂłgenos llenaron la cancha y los jugadores se tuvieron que refugiar en sus camisetas para evitar afectaciones. El ĂĄrbitro del compromiso tuvo que suspenderlo parcialmente y enviar a los futbolistas a los vestuarios.
A las afueras del estadio, el ambiente no estaba mejor y hubo peleas entre hinchas y policĂas. Al menos 100.000 aficionados habrĂan querido entrar ilegalmente al partido. Se escucharon disparos, e incluso, un camarĂłgrafo recibiĂł una bala de goma, sin razĂłn alguna.
